“Discovery”

“For the time being, I gave up writing – there is already too much truth in the world – an overproduction which apparently cannot be consumed”  — Otto Rank

We kid ourselves by thinking

that most truths about man

are yet to be discovered,

as if it is up to us to uncover

what has been known for centuries.

It is far greater to read than write,

far nobler to listen than to speak,

far more difficult to be good than right,

far harder to lose one’s self than to find truth.

‘It is the ideas of the shipwrecked that are genuine.’

I read that sentence from Ortega

before being interrupted by the plumber.

Perhaps it is the ideas of the shitwrecked

that we should pay attention to, for we are,

as we have always been, defecating deities.
