“A Good Life”

“These are really the thoughts of all men in all ages and lands, they are not original with me,

If they are not yours as much as mine they are nothing, or next to nothing”

— Walt Whitman

Life is little things:

pinpricks of light which

seem insignificant

until we look up

on a clear, moonless night

far from the city

and see the whole sky

in breath-taking beauty,

built by small acts of kindness

guiding lonely wanderers.

Look up and you will see

the past from the present,

billions of insignificant acts

by confused actors

on a pale blue dot

suspended in a sunbeam.

The future does not feature,

only then and now

exist in the night sky and

we cannot know what others see.

The only way to see stars

in someone else’s eyes

is to tell them they exist

that you can see them,

especially when it is dark.

Life is little things,

obscured by time’s blinding light

with headaches and worries

forcing our eyes down,

so look up and live!

Live for the night sky,

for the stars in others’ eyes.

Live for the little things

and the love that they bring.

Live to see it all differently

in the light of the past and presently

life will blow the clouds away.

Live and love as if to say

that each mistake is just a point of light.

I’ve made many and so my world is bright.

I’ve made many and so my world is bright.
